Funerals/Memorials

A properly performed funeral is a privileged opportunity to return to God,… the gift of the deceased.  It expresses our hope in Eternal Life and the Resurrection of the Body

No matter how well we try to prepare ourselves, the loss of a loved one and preparing for their funeral often reveals just how unprepared we actually are,… and how confusing and complicated things can get.  This is especially true when a death is sudden and unexpected.

Please don’t go through this difficult time alone.   Look to your church community, your family, and close friends for immediate support.   The Ministers and Chaplains at Still Water Ministries-Indiana Pastoral Care are also available,… regardless of your church or religious affiliation.  We pray that the information on this page will be helpful to you.

FUNERAL SERVICE

COMMITTAL SERVICE

MEMORIAL SERVICE

What’s the difference and which one should I do?

A FUNERAL SERVICE will have the Casket with the Body or the Urn with the Ashes present.  The service is usually held in a chapel but can be done anywhere.  Traditionally there will be Scripture readings, hymns, a brief sermon, the Lord’s Supper (if requested) and prayers that affirm God’s power over death and His promise of everlasting life.  Family & friends are encouraged to participate in the service with readings, tributes, and a eulogy  (if desired),… giving thanks for the life of the deceased, with special emphasis on the gifts, accomplishments, and contributions of the person’s life.

A GRAVESIDE COMMITTAL SERVICE takes place after the main Funeral Service and is held at the location where the body/ashes will actually be laid to final rest.   A GRAVESIDE COMMITTAL SERVICE  includes many of the same elements as a full Funeral Service, however, it is shorter.  Some families prefer to hold only a GRAVESIDE COMMITTAL SERVICE in consideration of those who are elderly, handicapped, or just mentally exhausted.

MEMORIAL SERVICE (remembrance) can be held anywhere, indoors or outdoors since the body or ashes are not present.  MEMORIAL SERVICES will usually display a picture of the deceased since the body, in most cases, has already been buried or cremated.

Note:  Funeral Services, Memorial Services, and Remembrances can be held just about anywhere, indoors or outdoors, such as in the home of the deceased, a park, a beach, on a mountain, hillside, or anywhere that is meaningful to the family.

Our suggested donation/honorariums are:

  • Funeral Service and Graveside Committal Service (occurring on same day) – $125.00
  • Funeral Service and Graveside Committal Service (occurring on separate days) – $150.00
  • Memorial / Remembrance Service – $100.00

Please call or email us if you have any questions or need additional information.  We look forward to hearing from you.
